My Experience
My Introduction to gorditas
I was first introduced to gorditas in high school. However, at the time, I did not eat beef and did not consider the other types of meat I could eat with Hispanic food. I then began to make some exceptions when I went over to some of my friend's parties or get togethers. However, I did make sure to only eat beef on rare occasions still. Once I eat beef for a meal, I wait several months before the next time I eat it.
One day, a friend of mine recommended me to try gorditas. He first took me to a food truck that sold them. I thought they were really good. When he saw my reaction to the gorditas, he laughed and said, "Wait until I take you to a restaurant that has even better gorditas." About a month or so later, he took me to a place called Los Picosos. And surely, he was right: they had the best gorditas I had ever had.
Los picosos
The restaurant where I tried my favorite gordita is called Los Picosos. Maria's, a girl I went to high school with, late father Oscar Rivera opened the restaurant. Her whole family helps in running Los Picosos, including her mom and brother. The food is excellent and authentic, which is one of my favorite things about the restaurant. They have plenty of meals to offer, something for everyone. This includes carnitas, parrilladas, sopes, tacos and their signature smoked grilled chicken.
